I am a librarian and researcher with interdisciplinary areas of interest in visual methods of information transmission and access, gender, religious studies, art history, and critical librarianship...
Grounded in five years of experience spanning academic, public, and special libraries and archives, I am a critical, collaboration-oriented, and forward-thinking new library professional. I am interested in understanding how barriers are erected to information access and finding ways to break them down to promote comfort in the information ecosystem.
In my hometown public library, I developed and implemented a program to introduce children to modern art and to visual thinking strategies. I focused first on the fun of art and then on creating works of their own. In this instance, whether they remembered the names of the artists was relatively immaterial. The objective was to be playful about art history to create comfort and curiosity. In my work at Suzzallo Library on the UW Campus, I created a series of guides to spotlight the ways marginalized identities are (or are not) represented in government documents called Who We Are: Diversity in Government Documents. I believe in staying up to date in as many areas of librarianship as possible because diversity of knowledge means diversity of solutions. You can find my full resume here, as well as my instruction philosophy and teaching experience blog. |
With my academic background in modern art and contemporary theology, I consistently strive to highlight marginalized viewpoints and to surprise and delight by connect the dots between disparate systems.
In my bachelor's thesis, I worked through complex theological questions through the lenses of rhetoric and critical gender theory. In my master's thesis, I engaged two artist's manifestos from Mexico and Brazil with methods from art history and print media studies. Today, I am working on questions of critical cataloging practice, Instagram fame and performance, and the urban experience within a gendered paradigm. You can find my research agenda here and my publications and presentations here. I've also included some of my unpublished class projects for a sense of what else I've worked on in library school. |

In my personal life, I'm always trying to beat my best time on the New York Times crossword puzzle and you can catch me in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes. I work out my itch to tell stories by running and playing in table top role playing games for and with my friends. In terms of consuming stories, you can find me on Goodreads to see what I'm reading.
